AMPE Foundation is a faith-based organisation dedicated to building communities and minds by reducing poverty through education, health, and development initiatives.
Our Why

In 2019, during a visit to Uganda, Peter Gleeson, inspired by his mother Alice Gleeson's educational journey, visited the primary school she attended over 45 years ago. Witnessing the rundown state of the school and its lack of a functional library, Peter made a promise to help rebuild it. This promise laid the foundation for AMPE Foundation.

Alice's story is one of resilience and determination. Despite the challenges, her early education in Bukono County provided a solid foundation for her academic pursuits. Her journey from a rural school in Uganda to achieving success is a testament to the power of education and opportunity. Inspired by Alice's story and motivated by the need to give back, Peter, along with Alice and other dedicated individuals, founded AMPE Foundation to address the educational and socio-economic challenges in Uganda.

Bukono County Primary School Renovation

AMPE Foundation is leading a transformative initiative to restore and expand Bukono Primary School in Namutumba District, Eastern Uganda - one of the oldest schools in the region, serving over 1,480 students. The project aims to address decades of neglect and overcrowding by rebuilding safe, inclusive, and modern learning facilities that will empower future generations.
Following extensive consultations with local community leaders, school administrators, and the Ministry of Education and Sports (Uganda), AMPE Foundation has developed a comprehensive plan for phased redevelopment. The first stage will focus on the construction of two new classrooms to reduce overcrowding, improve learning conditions, and enhance student safety.

This project is now being implemented in partnership with the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick (Australia) and the Rotary Club of Kampala City (Uganda) under a formal Memorandum of Understanding, and is in the process of registration with Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) to secure donor support and project oversight.

With finalised building plans, a verified bill of quantities, and a local implementation team on the ground, AMPE Foundation is preparing to commence construction in late 2025, fully funded through donations and community contributions. Local residents have pledged to provide bricks, sand, and voluntary labour - ensuring that this project not only rebuilds a school but strengthens the community that sustains it.
Bukono County
In Uganda, the AMPE Foundation plans to first intervene in Bukono County, located in the Namutumba District within the Busoga Region of Eastern Uganda. This region is characterised by its high rates of school dropouts, which pose significant challenges to the community's socio-economic development and overall well-being.

The region faces widespread poverty, with many families unable to afford school fees, uniforms, and other educational materials, while health challenges like maternal care gaps compound educational barriers.

Bukono County has one of the highest school dropout rates in Uganda. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), dropout rates in Eastern Uganda are significantly higher than the national average.
